It is late in April and the rhodedendron are begining to bloom. The Greek name for this statuesque beauty literally means tree rose and our natives frequently climb to twenty feet or more above the forest floor. It is also time for the much maligned poison oak to bloom although understandably relatively few folks go out of their way to admire it. Other natural wonders can be found in the most common of locations - a ditch beside the road, a patch of "weeds," a field behind a ramshackle fence... Locales that have been left alone seem to be among the best spots to find wildflowers.
